The Neolithic, or First Agricultural Revolution, transformed humanity from hunter gatherers to farmers. This allowed them to settle one piece of land instead of forcing them to follow the herds they used as their main food sources. As is common with all changes to society some embraced the new way while others embraced the old way. The change from hunter gatherers to farmers impacted the way people interacted with their environment because for the first time they had to deal with the consequences of what they did to their environment; if they over fished, over planted, poisoned the water, etc. nature did not just take care of it while they were gone, off following the herds, now they had to care for the environment so it would care for them.
