Answer:

parallel means that the line has the same slope as

y =  \frac{1}{2} x + 9

Slope point formula :

y - y1 = m (x - x1)

m represents the slope.

x and y represents the point in the form (x, y).

Since the slopes are the same we can substitute the slope into the formula:

y - y1 =  \frac{1}{2} (x - x1)

then we can substitute our point (2, - 5)

y - ( - 5) =  \frac{1}{2} (x - 2)

Final answer:

Change the - 5 to positive.

y + 5 =  \frac{1}{2} (x - 2)

Leave y by it's own and subtract 5 to get rid of it. Do this both sides to make it equal.

y  + 5 - 5 =  \frac{1}{2} (x - 2)  - 5

Get rid of the brackets by multiplying:

y =(  \frac{1}{2}  \times x)  - ( \frac{1}{2}  \times 2) - 5

simplify:

y =  \frac{1}{2} x - 1 - 5

Answer:

y =  \frac{1}{2} x - 6

Write the equation of the line that passes through the given points. Include your work in your final answer. Type your answer in
Harman [31]
The equation you use for the slope of this kind of problem is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1). x1 is the first X coordinate, x2 is the second, y1 is the first y coordinate, y2 is the second.

(5-3)/(2-2)
2/0
This equation has an UNDEFINED SLOPE, as it is just a vertical line.
