Because they were both by rivers the land was fertile which is a plus for settling in a location and not to mention of the individuals settling were not the first to think the area was great animals and plants thrived and lived in the area which is another food source. The people saw that plant and animal thrived in this area so they should be able to live in this area as well with ease.
