I looked this question up and found out it is about "<u>The Canterbury Tales</u>".

One example of direct characterization in lines 81-90 is:

"In stature he was of a moderate length."

  • "<u>The Canterbury Tales</u>" is a collection of 24 stories by British writer Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400). The lines we are analyzing here belong to the <u>General Prologue</u> of the collection.
  • Direct characterization happens when the narrator of a story tells us the characteristics of a character. That is, <u>instead of showing</u> us a character's traits <u>through his actions or thoughts</u>, the narrator simply states, "<u>this character has this or that trait</u>."
  • Lines 81-90 from the Prologue are filled with examples of direct characterization. One of them is "<u>In stature he was of a moderate length.</u>" This is the narrator directly telling us the height of a young Squire.

Answer:

Historian. This caught my attention because the historian seems to go above and beyond on his/her work. He/she makes sure that they have all the information needed. The historian is like a modern-day reporter. They get the evidence (the photos), and the story behind everything (the two artists).

Hope this helps!
