Greta and Xavier, the boy she was babysitting, were playing basketball together. Her score was 32 points, and his score was 19 p

oints. Greta wanted to make the game more fair, so she called a time-out and modified the rules a bit. Greta explained that, for the rest of the game, she would get 3 points per basket, and Xavier would get 4 points per basket. Then they played a bit longer. After the time-out, they both made the same number of baskets and ended up with a tied score. How many baskets did each person make after the time out? How many points did each person have at the end?

Let the number of baskets be x
Let the number of points be y

32 +3x = y
19 + 4x = y

Rearrange both equations then solve them as simultaneous equations
32 = y - 3x
19 = y - 4x

y - 3x = 32
- y - 4x = 19

x = 13

Substitute x into one of the equations
y - 3x = 32
y - (3 x 13) = 32
y - 39 = 32
y = 32 + 39
y = 71

Number of baskets (x) = 13
Number of points (y) = 71

In the data set below, what is the mean absolute deviation?4461526If the answer is a decimal, round it to the nearest tenth.mean
bixtya [17]
I assume that the numbers are: 4,4,6,1,5,2,6
If so, then the MAD is 1.43

To find the MAD, you first find the mean of the list. It is 4.
Then find the absolute difference of each number from the mean.

Those values are: 0,0,2,3,1,2,2
Now find the mean of those numbers and you have about: 1.43

Find y’ for y=7sec^3x
laiz [17]
Taking the derivative of 7 times secant of x^3:
We take out 7 as a constant focus on secant (x^3)
To take the derivative, we use the chain rule, taking the derivative of the inside, bringing it out, and then the derivative of the original function. For example:
The derivative of x^3 is 3x^2, and the derivative of secant is tan(x) and sec(x).
Knowing this: secant (x^3) becomes tan(x^3) * sec(x^3) * 3x^2. We transform tan(x^3) into sin(x^3)/cos(x^3) since tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x). Then secant(x^3) becomes 1/cos(x^3) since the secant is the reciprocal of the cosine.

We then multiply everything together to simplify:

sin(x^3) * 3x^2/ cos(x^3) * cos(x^3) becomes

3x^2 * sin(x^3)/(cos(x^3))^2

and multiplying the constant 7 from the beginning:

7 * 3x^2 = 21x^2, so...

our derivative is 21x^2 * sin(x^3)/(cos(x^3))^2
