We should think before we do because it will prevent unwanted consequences. If you don't think before you act, you may realize that you did not really want to do what you did. You did it without thinking or meaning to hurt anyone, but it hit someone and hurt them badly. Or maybe it didn't hurt someone else and you ended up hurting yourself. I do not mean that you hurt someone else or yourself physically, although maybe that is the case. But also you could hurt yourself by not studying for a test and failing. You could hurt someone else by disrupting the class and making others fail as well. There are many different varieties of hurting both yourself and others. This is why you should think before acting, unless you are ready to face the consequences of your actions.
