A polling firm wants to contact a random sample of people likely to vote in an upcoming nation-wide election. They will use a ra

ndom digit dialer to generate and call phone numbers at random, so the poll will include people with landlines, unlisted numbers, and mobile phones. The random digit dialer skips invalid phone numbers. If a person doesn't answer a call, the dialer will try one more time, and then skip that number. When a person does answer, a pollster asks a set of initial questions -such as the person's age and whether or not they voted in previous elections to see if they are likely to vote in the upcoming election. If they are eligible and likely to vote, the pollster will then ask a series of questions about the election,

Dave drove to his friends house and back. It took one hour longer to go there than it did to come back. The average speed on the
mamaluj [8]

Remark

You know the most about the trip on the way back and the total of the two trips.

Way Back

r = 30 mph

d = distance traveled

t = t - 1 where t = the time to go there which we know nothing about

Total Distance

2d = 25 mph * (t + t - 1)

2d = 25 * (2t - 1)

2d = 50t  - 25                 Divide by 2

2d = 50t/2 - 25/2

d = 25t - 12.5

Equation coming back

d = 30*(t - 1)

d = 30t - 30

Comment

Since the distances are the same, equate them.

Solution

25t - 12.5 = 30t - 30                     Subtract 25t from both sides

25t - 25t -12.5 = 30t - 25t - 30   Combine like terms

-12.5 = 5t - 30                              Add 30 to both sides

-12.5 + 30 = 5t - 30 + 30             Combine

17.5 = 5t                                       Divide by 5

17.5/5 = t                                      Divide and Switch

t = 3.5

t is the time going there

t - 1 is the time coming back

Total time = 2*t - 1 = 2*3.5 - 1 = 6

The total time is 6 hours. Answer

HELLP PLSS

(-2 and 1/9) - (-4 and 1/3) = x

Find the value of x
dedylja [7]

Answer:

x = 20/9

Step-by-step explanation:

We want to write out all of the mixed fractions into improper fraction form. So -2 and 1/9 becomes -19/9 and -4 and 1/3 becomes -13/3. Then we get (-19/9) - (-13/3). The two minus signs together means a positive/plus sign, so we get -19/9 + 13/3. In order to add, we want the denominator to be the same. A common denominator could be 9, so -19/9 + 13(3)/3(3) = -19/9 + 39/9 = 20/9, which is our final answer
