In what way do two alleles for the same trait differ?
Alex17521 [72]
There is Homozygous Dominant which is two dominant alleles, then Homozygous Recessive which is two alleles that will only be shown if it is paired with heterozygous which is a Dominant and recessive. I hope that makes sense, sorry i’m bad at explaining but if it doesn’t I can try and explain it again.

What structure keeps food from entering the larynx during swallowing?
Anika [276]
The swallowing mechanism consists of three stages, beginning with the oral phase that begins in the mouth. The second stage, called the pharyngeal phase, triggers the swallowing reflex that moves food through the throat, or pharynx. During the pharyngeal phase, the larynx closes and breathing stops while food begins to move through the throat to the esophagus. The closing of the larynx is accomplished by the epiglottis. During the third stage, food is moved down the esophagus to the stomach.

A fruit fly population has a gene with two alleles, a1 and a2. tests show that 70% of the gametes produced in the population con
maksim [4K]
The answer is 0.42.

According to the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium:
p + q = 1
p² + 2pq + q² = 1
where p is a frequency of a1 allele, q is a frequency of a2 allele, p² is a frequency of a1a1 genotype, 2pq is a frequency of a1a2 genotype, q² is a frequency of a2a2 genotype.

If 70% of the gametes produced in the population contain the a1 allele, then:
p = 70% = 0.7.
If p = 0.7 and p + q = 1, then q = 1 - p = 1 - 0.7 = 0.3

So, the proportion of the flies that carry both a1 and a2 (a1a2 genotype) is:
2pq = 2 * 0.7 * 0.3 = 0.42
