The cytoplasm is a fluid substance that fills every living cell which is enclosed by the cell membrane. This substance is mainly composed of water and proteins.

The functions that take place within the eukaryotic cytoplasm are diverse:

  • Location for most metabolic pathways. Except for the metabolic pahtways in cell nucleus and cytoplasmatic organelles, all metabolic functions (e.g., synthesis of biomolecules, growth, etc) occur in the cytoplasm.  The cytoplasm contain enzymes (i.e., proteins) to carry out different chemical reactions.

  • Location for organelles that house many of the metabolic pathways for the cell. For example, the synthesis of ATP (the energy coin of the cells) is carried out in the mitochondria, which are organelles found in the cytoplasm.

  • Location for the cytoskeleton that gives integrity to the cell. The cytoplasm contains all of the three types of filaments of the cytoskeleton (i.e., microtubules, actin filaments, and intermediate filaments) which provides structural support to the cells.

On the other hand, in plant cells, the cell wall is located outside the cell membrane.

How does epithelial tissue help bruises or wounds? It replaces damaged cells. It creates a barrier over the bruise or wound. It

There are at least three primary functions that are performed by the epithelial tissue.Firstly it provides a great protective covering for all the tissues lying beneath it from radiation, toxins, physical trauma, desiccation and invasion of pathogens. Secondly it helps to regulate the exchange of chemicals between the body cavity and the tissues that lie underneath the epithelial tissues. It also helps in the secretion of the hormones in to the bloods. These are all major but primary functions of the epithelial tissues. From this we can easily understand the importance of the epithelial tissues.</span>

How do ATP and ADP compare? A. ATP has one fewer phosphate group and is lower in energy than ADP. B. ATP has one fewer phosphate
Lady bird [3.3K]
D. ATP (Adenosine TRIphosphate) has one more phosphate group and is higher in energy than ADP (Adenosine DIphosphate). TRI means three, DI means two, so the names of the molecules tell you there's one more phosphate in ATP than in ADP.

That extra phosphate makes ATP higher in energy (when the cell uses that energy to do something - contract a muscle fiber, for instance - the ATP's extra energy is used and it gets converted to ADP).
