In order to rewrite an expression in radical form using exponents, we must consider the power of the root (is the radical the typical square root, cubed root, etc) and the value of any exponents contained in the radical. 

Using this information, we will make the power of the radical the denominator of our exponent, and whatever exponent is contained in the radical will become the numerator.

Example:
√(x³) = square root of x³ = x^(3/2)

I'm assuming your teacher probably meant to have _LOTS_OF_FLOURS

See the explanation below as to why that first "O" is left out.

I would as your teacher for more clarification if s/he made a typo or not.

For the stuff in the top row, we simplify the expression to get a single number. For example,

2^5 = 2*2*2*2*2 = 32

We have five copies of "2" multiplied out

The result of 32 means we'll cross off "32" from the list. This is the one with the lettering of "lV"

As another example,

3^4 = 3*3*3*3 = 81

The exponent tells us how many copies of the base to multiply

The result of 81 means we cross off the entry labeled "bT 81"

When it says a = 2, we replace every copy of 'a' with 2

Something like (3a)^2 will then mean (3*2)^2. Use PEMDAS to simplify and you should get 36 as the result.

Where \mu=3.36 and \sigma=0.18

And the best way to solve this problem is using the normal standard distribution and the z score given by:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

For this part we want to find a value a, such that we satisfy this condition:

P(X>a)=0.10   (a)

P(X   (b)

Both conditions are equivalent on this case. We can use the z score again in order to find the value a.  

As we can see on the figure attached the z value that satisfy the condition with 0.90 of the area on the left and 0.10 of the area on the right it's z=0.816. On this case P(Z<0.816)=0.90 and P(Z>0.816)=0.1

If we use condition (b) from previous we have this:

But we know which value of z satisfy the previous equation so then we can do this:

z=0.816=\frac{a-3.36}{0.18}

And if we solve for a we got

a=3.36 +0.816*0.18=3.507
