Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island was slated to be a temporary place to put garbage from metropolitan areas New York City. O

fficials expected municipal
incinerators to take over as the state-of-the-art waste disposal method for New York's large and growing population. The landfill was originally intended to be used for
five years, but officials continued to use it when other solutions didn't work as planned. Which statement best describes why continuing to use Fresh Kills Landfill was
not an adequate waste management strategy?
O Landfills cause more pollution than other waste disposal methods
Transporting waste from New York City to Staten Island is too expensive
O The landfill cannot store trash from a growing population for very long.
The expected incinerators will cost less than maintaining the landfill.

The continued of Fresh kill landfill is not an adequate waste management strategy because, landfills cannot accommodate wate from a growing population for very long.

Adequate waste disposal strategy is often more concerned with limiting the health risk posed by inadequate disposal of refuse and waste. landfill are a portion of land which is assigned for refuse disposal such that it becomes inefficient as population builds up. Continous usage of landfill will also result in further pollution of the environment.

The cost of transportation and maintainance of incinerators are aligned to the economic consideration associated with the Fresh kill landfill.

Hence, the continued usage of the Fresh kill landfill shows inadequate waste management strategy as it cannot store trash from a growing population for too long.

What would happen if a disease killed off the top level of an ecosystem?
Daniel [21]
If it killed the top level of an ecosystem it would damage the whole ecosystem because it's connected. An organism depends on that top organism which would mean that is that organism dies it would affect the organism that depends on it.

A strand of DNA that is 36 nucleotides long codes for how many amino acids?
Margarita [4]

Answer:

See answer below

Explanation:

Hi there,

Assuming this DNA strand is fully capable of being mature mRNA (5' m7G cap and PolyA tail), nucleotides lead to an mRNA codon, which is 3 nucleotides per codon. In turn, 1 codon leads to 1 amino acid. However, as a single strand, it must be capable of terminating translation, which always requires a stop codon, and thus 3 nucleotides. Hence, we must subtract this from the total amount of codons first.

36 \ ncltd \ \frac{1 \ codon}{3 \ ncltd} = 12 \ codon\\12 \ codon - 1 \ codon \ = 11 \ codon\\11 \ codons\ \frac{1 A.A.}{1 \ codon} = 11 \ A. A.

Hence, only 11 amino acids will be coded by a single DNA strand 36 ncltd long.

thanks,

Describe one type of factor that controls cell division.
irina [24]
The cell cycle is controlled by many cell cycle control factors, namely cyclins, cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks) and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CKIs). Cyclins and Cdks, which are positive regulators of the cell cycle, activate cell cycle factors that are essential for the start of the next cell cycle phase.

Factors Affecting Cell Division
Nutrients. The nutrients present in the cell affect cell division. ...
Genetics. Genetic code regulates cell division. ...
Chemicals. Exposure to toxic chemicals such as pesticides and some cleaning chemicals can cause cell mutation. ...
Stress. Stress affects cell division.
