Even when looking very similar, Pyrite and Gold have their differences. Pyrite is harder than Gold and has dark grey streaks. Gold, on the other hand, is yellow and has no streaks.

Pyrite and Gold can be easily confused. However, they are quite different from each other. And you can see some of these differences externally.

Let us enumerate some characteristics that they do not share.

<u>Pyrite</u>

  1. Composed of irum and sulfur,
  2. It is a sulfide,
  3. It is not malleable, it is hard,
  4. It is striated, exhibiting parallel lines,
  5. Composed of many crystals with sharp edges,
  6. Golden-colored, but not pure. It is lighter and with greyish lines,
  7. It has spots on its surface,
  8. Bad smell, especially when heating it.

<u>Gold</u>

  1. Composed only of gold,
  2. It is a metal,
  3. It is very malleable,
  4. It is homogeneous, with no striated surface,
  5. It does not have crystals and characterizes for having rounded edges,
  6. Its color is yellow-like gold. Pure,
  7. It does not exhibit spots on its surface, nor changes in tonality,
  8. It does not have a bad smell, even when heating it.
