The compromise helped gather enough support for the Constitution to ensure its ratification and for it to go to the adoption of the first ten amendments and the Bill of Rights. Judge analyze and interpret all evidence in a court of law regarding cases to dictate a fair verdict and a sentence when necessary. Judge act as impartial mediators in courts of law, taking part in hearings, civil litigation cases, etc.

Many cases begin in this court. Usually, the cases are like felonies, serious misdemeanors, fraud, bankruptcy, and other "white collar crimes". In this  courts of general jurisdiction, cases are heard through trial by the jury.

One significant effect of the classification of a court is the liability that a judge from that court might face for stepping beyond the bounds of that court.
