The steps of the naturalization procedure are: (1) file an application. (2) take an examination (3) file a legal petition for naturalization (4) appear at a court hearing and finally (5) take an oath of allegiance. It is of course necessary to meet certain requirements before one can become a citizen. The applicant must be a legal adult (otherwise they gain citizenship when their parents do), and have entered the country in a legal manner. They also must have been a resident of the U.S. for at least five successive years before beginning the application process. Besides that, the aspirant to citizenship must fully realize the English language (be able to read, write, and speak in English) and show proficient knowledge of American history and government.
