....I ignored them and climbed the back fence to see my best friend, Scott a second-generation okie. What is the meaning of the
Dmitrij [34]

Answer:

Someone who is from the West and whose parents are from the West.

Explanation:

In Gary Sato's <em>Like Mexicans</em>, he tells the story of how his parents and family want him to marry a girl from his own race and ethnicity. They seemed to emphasize the importance of marrying within the same 'race', which he also tries hard to obey as far as he can.

In the given passage, Gary mentioned his best friend Scott as <em>"a second-generation okie"</em>. And like he mentioned in the beginning of the story, and according to his grandmother, <em>"everyone who wasn't Mexican, black or Asian were Okies"</em>. So, though Okie is a term generally used to refer to a resident of Oklahoma or a native of that place, Sato used this term as a generalized term for anyone from the West and whose parents are from the West.

It has been said Sojourner Truth was a trailblazer for feminism and women civil rights. How is this reflected in Ain't I a Woman
nikklg [1K]

Answer and Explanation:

In his speech, Sojourner Truth pointed to the exclusion of the cause of black women in emerging feminist movements. She says that feminist movements did not give space to black women, did not let them speak and did not address their problems. In that case she asked "Ain't I a Woman?"

Truth said she was prevented from speaking, by feminists, lest the feminist cause be confused with the black cause. According to her, this episode was very wrong, since white women claimed that feminist movements should seek to break the concept of women's fragility in relation to men, who forbade them to work and have freedoms. However, Truth affirmed that black women were never seen with fragility and never had freedom in the same way, being necessary that they also be included and heard.
