Gustatory receptors are specialized receptors that detect taste including the basic sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami tastes. These receptors are located mainly in the tongue and they are part of the taste buds, which are structures made of multiple taste receptors or gustatory recepts. Additionally, these receptors detect tastes once an element enters in contact with the receptor and after this, they transmit the information to the gustatory areas in the brain that process it. According to this, it is true gustatory receptors are found in the taste buds.
