The way that Earths axis is tilted is what determines the season that it is. for example when the Northern hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, it's summer in the Northern Hemisphere. And when the Southern hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere. This is because when a hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, that hemisphere is getting direct rays from the sun.
