The simile in the poem is Like an army defeated the snow hath retreated . It means that in winter season the whole landscape was covered with snow but with the advent if spring season with its bright sunny days , The snow has melted away . The spring season is described by the poet in this poem .

In a foreign vast lands, their spiritual bond made keep them close to each other. They had excellent survival techniques that helped them in their pursuits.  Each of their church congregation and individuals were responsible to God separately. Puritan societies did not accept anyone with different beliefs.
