The theme of  "The Gift of Magi" is that love can actually make you risk the big things.

Explanation:

I got to this conclusion since Jim and Della soled their most prized possessions so they could afford each other a Christmas gift. Their actions demonstrate the willingness to sacrifice material goods for their love.
