As a result of the State colonization law of 1825, Stephen F. Austin received the rights to land grants.
This law gave Anglo-colonists the right to settle in Texas and Coahuila. In order to settle they had to pay only a small fee.
Initially Moses Austin was to inaugurate the settlement but he died. His son Stephen took over the contract.
The state Colonization law of 1825 had the law that the family heads of the immigrant families had to pay installment fees years after they had settled.
