Yes. A lot of people who are older (around 50-70 years old) are currently living there, and they lived during times when racism was considered normal. There are more reasons but you can probably figure those out for yourself ;)

Along the Equator itself you have the Amazon rain forest and Volcan Cayambe, the only place on earth where there is permanent snow on the Equator. Let me suggest you take some geography courses so you can know what the world is really like instead of saying stereotypical things like South America is like [something] because “it’s on the equator.”
