Answer:The film opens in a nondescript apartment in post-WWII America. The protagonists are waiting for some expected visitors, but their guests are late. Mommy feels disturbed, and by taunting her husband repeatedly, makes sure that he actually lends an ear to her. Meanwhile, Mommy's mother, Grandma, enters from the archway with boxes of gifts. Mommy has become rich after marrying Daddy, and she thinks she has a right to use Daddy's money as she pleases in exchange for having sex with her husband. The statement that is implied by the sentence from the story is "Poor people were expected to tolerate any ridicule made by the rich," as stated in option C.

What does the passage imply?

The passage from Mark Twain's "The £1,000,000 Bank-Note" is narrated by a poor man. As a matter of fact, he is so poor that, even though he feels mistreated, he does not believe he can do anything about it. After all, those who mistreated him are rich.

We can say, thus, that the passage implies that poor people were expected to tolerate any ridicule made by the rich. So much so that the narrator walks away feeling insulted, but does not do anything to confront those who insulted him.

With the information above in mind, we can choose option C as the correct answer.
