The Germans defeated Russia during the World War I. The reason for its loss was that the Czar of Russia embarked on war that the country was not prepared for. He took control of the army and his strategies were a failure which left him with all the humiliating defeat and blame of its people.
The intolerable acts were oppressing the colonist's freedom of speech and being independent. They prevented the colonists from having a say against the British Parliament's over controlling power.

Poll taxes were used to prevent African American men from voting. Because many of the African American men were poor and could not pay the taxes they could not pay the taxes, they could not vote. Literacy test or (understanding test) where they were forced to read and explain the text to a white man.
