Modern humans were generalist species, our brains were big, and we followed the herds of massive pack animals for food or kept by the sea. Humans innovated in technology like spearhead for certain tasks and we innovated concerning what foods we could eat. Innovations and body composition gave us an evolutionary advantage over humanoid species such as Neanderthals. Humans were also built better a warmer/warming climate which gave us a one up over our Neanderthal ancestors which were biologically designed for the ice age temperatures.
