George Donner was one of an american leader (Donner party) and pioneers. He was born of german descent in North Carolina around 1786. He moved to kentucky before eventually settling down just out of Springfield, Illinois with his family. He had worked as a farmer before joining up with James Reed, who was then leading a group of people to California (on the Oregon Trail). During leading the group to california they had come snowbound in the Sierra Nevada of Alta California in the winter of 1846-1847. Because of the harsh weather conditions of the group having to face and being stuck on the mountain, deserted, they ran out of resources. It was later proposed for that group to bare what was left, and was ideal to restore to cannibalism to live. families ate loved ones that were deceased to live. George donner had died at his camp in Alder Creek Valley in Nevada County, California in March 1847. His wife Tamsen Donner also had passed two weeks after. Yet the story of the parties gruesome acts remain forever.
