The boys make Ralph their leader who further instructs the boys to hunt for food. Furthermore, he asks boys to make prepare a fire to signal any passing planes and ships. But the boys were more into enjoying their time without the grown ups until they let a large portion of the forest catch fire, which presumably kills a boy. Circumstances make the boys transition from innocent to savage and bloodthirsty children desperate to survive.
