The answer would be 2.2.
This sentence as an expression would be n - (-3n) = n + 11.
Solve it and you'll get 2.2!
It seemed like it should have been so simple. There was nothing inherently difficult with getting the project done. It was simple and straightforward enough that even a child should have been able to complete it on time, but that wasn't the case. The deadline had arrived and the project remained unfinished.
Hello!
You use the Pythagorean theorem to solve this
![a^{2} + b^{2} = c^{2}](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%20a%5E%7B2%7D%20%2B%20b%5E%7B2%7D%20%3D%20c%5E%7B2%7D%20)
Put in the values it tells you to
![a^{2} + 4.4^{2} = 5.5^{2}](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=a%5E%7B2%7D%20%2B%204.4%5E%7B2%7D%20%3D%205.5%5E%7B2%7D%20)
Square the numbers
![a^{2} + 19.36 = 30.25](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=a%5E%7B2%7D%20%2B%2019.36%20%3D%2030.25)
Subtract 19.36 from both sides
![a^{2} = 10.89](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%20a%5E%7B2%7D%20%3D%2010.89)
Take the square root of both sides
a = 3.3
The answer is 3.3
Hope this helps!
Let X = the number of pennies.
The number of nickels would be 2X
A penny is 0.01 and a nickel is 0.05
Now you have:
0.01x + 2(0.05x) = 8.80
Simplify:
0.01x + 0.10x = 8.80
Combine like terms:
0.11x = 8.80
Divide both sides by 0.11:
x = 8.80 / 0.11
x = 80
Pennies = X = 80 total pennies.
Nickels = 2x = 2 *80 = 160 nickels.
