Tess and Dan have $24.00 each to spend at a book fair, where all students receive a 15% discount. They both want to purchase a c

opy of the same book, which normally sells for $24.50 plus 10% sales tax. To check if she has enough to purchase the book, Tess takes 15% of $24.50 and subtracts that amount from the normal price. She takes 10% of the discounted selling price and adds it back to find the purchase amount. Dan takes 85% of the normal purchase price and then computes 110% of the reduced price. Is Tess correct? Is Dan correct? Do they have enough money to purchase the book? Explain your answer using complete sentences, and show your work.

A rectangular pool is to be built on a lot that measures 20 m by 12 m. A wooden deck of uniform width, equal to the area of the
frutty [35]

The length and breadth(width) of the pool are

l\approx15.7m\text{ and }b\approx7.7m

Let

l=\text{length of the side of the pool}\\b=\text{breadth of the pool side}\\w=\text{the width of the strip of deck surrounding the pool}

From the question, we can build the following relationships

l+2w=20\\b+2w=12

subtracting to eliminate w (we do not even need it!)

l-b=8\\b=l-8

we can also build another relationship from the question. Since the area of the strip equals the area of the pool:

lb+lb=2lb=20\times 12\\lb=120

We have two unknowns, l and b. Eliminate b

lb=120\\l(l-8)=120\\l^2-8l-120=0

If we solve the quadratic equation for l, we get

l=4+2\sqrt{34}\approx 15.7m

and

b=l-8\\b=(4+2\sqrt{34})-8\\b=2\sqrt{34}-4\approx7.7m

The length and breadth(width) of the pool are

l\approx15.7m\text{ and }b\approx7.7m

Which of the following is less than 527 m?
Andru [333]
1m = 100cm = 1000mm = 1,000,000,000nm
1Mm = 1,000,000m

A. 0.000699 Mm = 0.000699 · 1,000,000 m = 699 m

B. 914,879,710 nm = (914,879,710 : 1,000,000,000) m = 0.914879710 m

C. 51,723 cm = (51,723 : 100) m = 517.23 m

Answer: C. 51,723 cm = 517.23 m ≈ 527 m

The required percentage of leagues that  have fewer than 7 teams is 25%

Box plots and Quartiles

A boxplot is a standardized way of displaying the distribution of data based on a five number summary. It consists of the minimum point, m<u>aximum point, quartiles and medians</u>

<u />

From the given boxplot, you can see that football league that have fewer than 7 teams occupies 1/4th of the total team. Hence the required peprcentage will be;

Percentage of those that have fewer than 7 teams = 1/4 * 100

Percentage of those that have fewer than 7 teams = 25%

Hence the required of leagues that  have fewer than 7 teams is 25%
