Many performances begin with written stories. Similarly, many written stories are eventually turned into stage productions. However, there are numerous disparities between the two mediums that must be addressed. Scripts are used to create performances. These usually comprise all of the instructions that the actors and crew must follow, such as tone of voice and facial expressions. This is left to the reader's imagination in written texts. Furthermore, written materials must be very thorough in terms of location and atmosphere, as the reader must be able to visualize all of this on his or her own. This, on the other hand, is expressed through acting during a performance.
