In today's society, teenagers tend to feel as though they are treated unfairly, having too much expected of them yet still being treated like children who cannot think or act for themselves. Because of this, I believe that the Transcendentalist ideals would resonate greatly with the high school students in today's society. One of the nonconformist statements in "Self-Reliance," that I believe the high school students of today would find particularly inspiring is, "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind."
