We expect that students who do well on the midterm exam in a course will usually also do well on the final exam. Gary Smith of P

omona College looked at the exam scores of all 346 students who took his statistics class over a 10-year period. The least-squares line for predicting final-exam score from mid-term exam score was γ=46.6 + 0.41x.
Octavio scores 10 points above the clas mean on the midterm. How many points above the class mean do you predict that he will score on the final. (Hint: what is the predicted final-exam score for the class mean midterm score of x-bar?) This is an example of regression to the mean, the phenomenon that gave "regression" its name: students who do well on the midterm will on average do less well on the final, but still above the class mean.)

Using the model equation, the predicted mean score on the final given a score of 10 points above the class mean in the mid term exam is 50.7

The Least - Square Regression equation which models the relationship between midterm and final exam score is :

 • γ=46.6 + 0.41x

x = 10 points ; substitute the value of x = 10 into the regression equation ;

γ=46.6 + 0.41(10)

γ=46.6 + 4.1

γ = 50.7

The number of points above the mean he'll score in the final exam is predicted to be 50.7

There are 178 sixth and seventh graders. There are 12 more sixth graders than seventh graders. How many seventh graders are ther
kirill [66]
We have a total of 178 6th and 7th graders. And we are informed that there are 12 more 6th graders the 7th graders. Let x = the number of 7th graders

x + (x + 12) = 178
Subtract 12 from both sides

x + x = 166
Add like terms

2x = 166
x = 83

So, there are 83 7th graders. And add 12 to find the number of 6th graders.

12 + 83 = 95

area of the rectangle = l×b = 40m

let the breadth be 10m

l = ?

l × 10 = 40

l = 40/10

l = 4m

so the length of the 4 sides = 10m, 10m, 4m, and 4m

Digiron [165]

Answer:

We are given that the total volume of the sandbox is 330 cubic feet.
We are given the side measurements of 3 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
3 x 10 = 30 sq2

V(volume)= 330 ft3

330 ft3 divided by 30 sq2 = 11ft

In conclusion, the length of the box would be:
= 11 ft
