For each pair (x,y) we check 5x-4y and if it's 17 we check YES otherwise NO.

(2,9)         5(2) - 4(9) = 10 - 36 = -26  NO

(-3,-8)       5(-3) - 4(-8) = -15 + 32 = 17  YES

(1,-3)         5(1) - 4(-3) = 5 + 12 = 17   YES

(-6,2)        5(-6) - 4(2) = -30 - 8 = -38  NO

Answer:

(2, 9) ................NO

(-3 , -8) ............YES

(1, -3) ...............YES

(-6, 2) ...............NO

Step-by-step explanation:

5x - 4y = 17

To check if a particular number is a solution, just substitute the value of x and y.

i. (2,9)

5x - 4y = 17

5*2 - 4*9 =

10 - 36 ≠ 17 (NOT A SOLUTION)

ii. (-3, -8)

5x - 4y = 17

5*-3 - 4*-8 =

-15 + 32 = 17. (A SOLUTION)

iii. (1, -3)

5x - 4y = 27

5*1 - 4*-3 =

5 + 12 = 17. (A SOLUTION)

iv. (-6, 2)

5x - 4y= 17

5*-6 - 4*2 =

-30 - 12 ≠ 17. (NOT A SOLUTION)

Math is truly fun

The equation of line AB is (y-3) = 5 (x - 4). What is the slope of a line perpendicular to line AB?
Nastasia [14]
Y - 3 = 5(x - 4)
y - 3 = 5x - 20
y = 5x - 20 + 3 = 5x - 17
=> slope = 5

For perpendicular line, m2 = -1/m1 = -1/5

Can anyone help me please and explain this: Write "60 pounds for $6.60" as a unit rate per ounce to the nearest tenth. 1 pound=
VMariaS [17]
If the rate is 60 pounds for $6.60 and we need to convert it to a unit rate per ounce, you will think of it as $6.60 for 60 pounds instead.

Divide to get a unit rate per pound.

$0.11 per pound

To convert this to an amount per ounce Change the rate to say $0.11 per 16 ounces(this means the same).

Divide 0.11 by 16 to get 0.006875 or $0.007 or 0.7 cents per ounce. Choice D but it should say per ounce, not per pound.
