  • Remain humble no matter how experienced you think you are at something.
  • Imagery helps the reader to visualize everything that transpired in the pitch. For instance, in these lines, "Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;" and "He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate," the reader can better feel and sense the tension in the air as Casey arrived to play.

<h3>What is the theme of a poem?</h3>

When asked to find the theme of a poem, we are required to determine the main lesson that should be taken from the reading of the poem.

In the poem above, we can see how overconfidence contributed to the mighty fall of Casey. His arrogance made him ignore the rules of the game that aided his tumultuous defeat.

So, the life lesson that is derived from this is that we must never become proud no matter our level of achievement in life.
