During the Harlem Renaissance African American’s had rights now but they were still treated poorly and had no respect from the whites. Booker T. Washington said that after the blacks prove that they are hardworking and helpful to whites America’s income that then they will be accepted and racism will fade. An Atlanta University professor named W.E.B. DuBois openly disagreed with this comment and he demanded things for the African American’s, like that whites and African American’s should have the same educational opportunities. This is when a man named Marcus Garvey decided to teach African American’s that black is beautiful, and that African American’s should embrace their heritage, culture, and race.
