Pueblo pottery as well as other art forms found in Native American indigenous groups of the southwestern United Sates originated when these groups changed from a nomadic lifestyle to a sedentary more permanent one, giving rise to agriculture, communities, settlements and expressions of culture. The Pueblo pottery is traditionally produced by women and has intricate and beautiful designs distinctive to the Pueblo people. The migration of Meso American groups from different parts and at different stages turned the now Southwestern United States in to a melting pot of cultures, traditions and people. This gave rise to the unique and rich pottery designs and its increase in production no longer limited to everyday use but also incorporated into religious and ceremonial use, as well as for trade and commerce. At the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century, we can see the negative effect of the once positive and enriching migration phenomenon. The displacement of native American people away from their original homelands caused a disruption in the production and conservation of their traditional art and became the reason for their near demise. Native Americans were forced to move to far away places and into enclosed or delimited areas called reservations, being separated from their original tribes and were not able to continue with their traditions and ways of life. This migration also caused disease and the death of a great part of the population and therefore a negative effect in their culture and legacy. No longer able to trade or communicate with other Native American groups, their traditions came very close to disappearing.
