The typical human chromosome has about 150 million base pairs that the cell replicates at the rate of 50 pairs per second. At that speed of DNA replication, it would take the cell over a month to copy a chromosome.

  • Pest infestation leads to significant crop loss every year. These GM crops can increase food security. They are immune to pests and should decrease the use of herbicides and pesticides, thereby growing crop yields and making output more effective. One of the first GM tomatoes dubbed the Flavr Savr was made for longer shelf life. A gene has been introduced from a different species to slow down the tomato's ripening without altering its taste or nutritional content, as well as reducing its vulnerability to fungal infection.
