After reading the paragraph below, answer the questions that follow. Researchers set up a study to determine whether large doses

of a nutritional supplement would shorten the length of time it takes to recover from a cold. Three thousand volunteers were split into two groups. For two weeks, members of group A took 3,000 mg of the supplement daily. Group B received 3,000 mg of a placebo (sugar pill), At the end of the two-week period, the researchers inserted live cold viruses directly into the noses of all the volunteers. The volunteers in both group A and group B continued to take their daily pills. All the volunteers got colds, and there was no significant difference in the length of time the colds lasted. Which was the experimental group?
a. group A only
b. group B only

Answer:

A. Group A only

Explanation:

The experimental group was group A, on the other hand, the control group was group B.

An experimental group is a set of people that receives treatment in an experiment, supplement daily in this case.

In every experiment, there is a test of subjects that are exposed to the treatment that is being studied called experimental group. But also, they must perform the same experiment with another test of subjects not exposed to the new treatment called control. In other to see if they are any differences between the two of them.

In this case, the treatment supplement daily was given to the group A. And the placebo or sugar pill with nothing in it was given to the group B to compare and confirm if the treatment actually works.

topjm [15]

The fraction of offspring that the Punnett square predict will be tall is ¾ (option C).

What is the punnet square?

The punnet square is a graphical representation used to determine the probability of an offspring expressing a particular genotype.

The punnet square is used to predict the percentage or proportion of offsprings of a cross that possess a specific genotype.

According to this question, a punnet square shows a cross between two tall pea plants. The allele for tall height (T) is said to be dominant while the allele for short height (t) is recessive.

If two heterozygous genotype crosses i.e. Tt × Tt, the percentage of offsprings that will be tall is 75% or ¾.

Therefore, the fraction of offspring that the Punnett square predict will be tall is ¾.
