Please also describe how actin-binding sites are made available for cross-bridging with myosin heads during contraction.

Answer: The calcium ion binds to troponin, and this slides the tropomyosin rods away from the binding sites.

Explanation:

Contraction and relaxation of muscle cells brings about movements of the body. The contractile myofilament called sarcomeres are bounded at each end by a dense stripe called the Z - line, to which the myosin fibres are attached, and lying in the middle of the sarcomere are the actin filaments, overlapping with the myosin.

When action potential spreads from the nerve along the sarcolemma (muscle cell membrane), it penetrates deep into the muscle cell through the sarcoplasm (cytoplasm of muscle cell), and releases CALCIUM from the intracellular stores.CALCIUM triggers the binding of myosin to the actin filament next to it forming CROSS BRIDGES.

For this to occur, ACTIN BINDING SITE has to be made available. TROPOMYOSIN is a protein that winds around the chains of the actin filament and covers the myosin-binding sites to prevent actin from binding to myosin. The first step in the process of contraction is for calcium ions to bind to troponin so that tropomyosin can slide away from the binding sites on the actin strands.

If you pumped contaminated water from an aquifer, cleaned the water and pumped it back in what would happen?
SashulF [63]

Answer:

It’s impossible to know what would happen

Explanation:

If contaminated water is pumped form an aquifer, cleaned and pumped back, it would be impossible to know what would happen unless the source of the contaminant is known.

If the source of the contaminant is known and removed before the water is pumped back into the acquifer, the water would be clean and stay clean provided that all the water was initially pumped off. If the source of the contaminant is not known, it would be difficult to predict what would happen.

Identify the structures in the cell pictured on the right
Label a,b,c,and d
30 points
yulyashka [42]

The labeling of the cell represents.

The label A is Nucleus: The nucleus of the cell carries the hereditary material DNA from one generation to another generation. This carries the traits from one generation to another.

The label B is Cytoplasm: This is the fluid part of the cell which has all the organelles floating in it.

The label C is ribosomes: It is the an organelle present in that that is responsible for the protein synthesis.

The label D is Nucleolus: It is known to be the largest structure in the nucleus of the eukaryotic cell. It helps in the signal recognition pathway.
