A rhetorical shift or contrasting idea is used when a speaker deviates from the tone of his text. In the last two paragraphs of Gandhi's text, I noticed a rhetorical shift because;

  • After criticizing the policies of the British government in the other paragraphs, he ended by saying that his aim was not to cause unnecessary embarrassment to them.
  • The effect of these contrasts and contradictions on the text is that it infuses an ironic tone to the text.

In his letter, the Indian Activist Mahatma Gandhi called out the British government that was oppressing the Indians.

He criticized the excessive taxation and mean laws they made in India because they took away the rights of the people.

In the end, he said that he did not want to embarrass or threaten the British government.

This seemed contradictory because he criticized their action. Then, it impacts an ironic tone to the text.

Exercise 1 Edit the sentence for clarity and correct grammar.<br> She are the starling of the team.
levacccp [35]

Answer: "She is the starling of the team" is the grammatically correct sentence.

Explanation: In this sentence, "is" acts as the linking verb. It is a form of the linking verb "to be". However, "to be" has another form, "are". The type of verb to be used can usually be determined by how the sentence sounds.

The main way of deciding the verb to use is to relate it to the noun which is performing the action. If the noun itself is singular, "is" must be used whereas for plural nouns "are" is to be used.

When the form of verb is in accordance to the subject, it is called subject-verb agreement.

In the given sentence, the subject is "she". Thus, the subject is singular. As a result, "is" is used and the correct sentence is "She is  the starling of the team".

Write 5 sentence descriptive paragraph
Dmitrij [34]

Answer:

His last smile to me wasn’t a sunset. It was an eclipse, the last eclipse, noon dying away to the darkness where there would be no dawn. I felt the urge to tell him how every time I saw him, my heart would jump out of my heart. The sunset filled the sky with a deep red flame, setting the clouds ablaze. And the waves rolled along the shore in a graceful, gentle rhythm, as if dancing with the land.

HELP FAAST PLEASE 7. Good What images does Thomas create with his words in this stanza (what do you see in your head based on hi
max2010maxim [7]

Answer (You didn't tell me what poem and which stanza) Is it this poem? :

"Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

What images does Thomas create with his words in this stanza (what do you see in your head based on his descriptions)?:

Thomas wrote "Do not go gentle into that good night" during a very specific moment in Dylan Thomas's life. His father, David John Thomas, had first introduced him to the wonder of language by reading him Shakespeare before bed at night. Thomas's father was a grammar school teacher, but he had always wanted to be a poet but was never able to realize his dream. Thomas wrote "Do not go gentle into that good night" because his father was dying.
