The Middle East is a region of great geopolitical importance. The region is in between Europe and the Far East, and between Africa and the Far East. Also, it is a region that has enormous reserves of oil and natural gas, two of the fossil fuels that are in highest demand in all world. The Arabian Peninsula and Iran are the two largest entities in the Middle East, and they are surrounded with numerous straits, gulfs, and seas, all of which have big importance in one way or another. The Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean are connecting this region with India and the rest of the Far East. The Red Sea is an important trade route between the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans, thus between Europe and Asia. Some gulfs simply represent division points between the countries in the region, while some like the Aden Gulf are very dangerous, as there is lot of Somali pirates that constantly attack tankers full with petroleum.
