Answer:

Almonds = $2.25/pound

Jelly Beans = $3.25/pound

Step-by-step explanation:

5a + 3b = 21        eq. 1

2a + 6b = 24        eq. 2

By multiplying by -2 the eq. 1

-10a - 6b = -42

By adding this last value with eq. 2

-10a  - 6b =  -42

 2a  + 6b  =  24

-8a  +  0b  =  -18

-8a = -18

a = -18/-8

a = 2.25

from eq. 1:

5*2.25 + 3b = 21

11.25 + 3b = 21

3b = 21 - 11.25

3b = 9.75

b = 9.75/3

b = 3.25

Check:

from eq. 2

2*2.25 + 6*3.25 = 24

4.5 + 19.5 = 24

Answer: Let x = number of pounds of jelly beans

      y = number of pounds of almonds.

Then, 4x + 8y = 33

          2x + 3y = 13

Multiply the second equation by -2 to get the system:

4x + 8y = 33

-4x - 6y = -26

Adding the equations, we get 2y = 7.  So, y = 3.5

Substitute for y in either of the given equations:  2x + 3(3.5) = 13

                                                                                     2x + 10.5 = 13

                                                                                                 2x = 2.5

                                                                                                   x = 1.25

ANSWER:  a pound of jelly beans costs $1.25 and a pound of                                almonds costs $3.50.

PLEASE HELP A QUESTION OF LIFE OR DEATH!!!!!!!
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Answer:  The length of the third straw is 29 centimeters.

Step-by-step explanation:  Given that Anja is creating a triangle using three straws and the lengths of two shorter straws are 20 cm and 21 cm.

We are to find the length of the third straw in centimeters so that Anja will create a right triangle.

The two shorter straws will make the legs of the right-angled triangle because they are shorter.

Since the third straw will be the largest, so it will make the HYPOTENUSE of the triangle.

In a right-angled triangle, we have

Hypotenuse² = length of one leg² + length of the other leg².

Therefore, we get

Hypotenuse^2=20^2+21^2=400+441=841\\\\\Rightarrow Hypotenuse=29.

Thus, the length of the third straw is 29 centimeters.

-8x+3-4&gt;-1<br> Pls explain
iren2701 [21]
Step 1) simplify the constants, so basically you are doing the 3-4 part and turning the equation in -8x-1>-1
Step 2) isolate the variable, first you need to add 1 to both sides to cancel it off then the equation is -8x>0. Next you divide both sides by -8, don't forget that when you multiply or divide by a negative you need to flip the sign which makes the equation x<0 because when you divide 0 by any number it is still 0
Hope this helped!
