Predict the outcome of gene flow in this agricultural scenario: One farmer is growing organic corn (not using pesticides or herb

icides), while the neighboring farmer is growing genetically modified corn with an allele for herbicide resistance (so that the farmer can spray the crop with herbicides and kill the weeds, not the com).
a. Gene flow is likely to occur from the genetically modified cornfield to the organic com field since the organic com is missing the gene for herbicide resistance. There would not be gene flow in the other direction
b. Gene flow between the two com populations (for example, via wind blowing pollen from one field to another) could result in the introduction of the herbicide-resistance allole from the genetically modified crop to the organic crop and/or for the introduction of non-herbicide-resistance alleles from the organic crop to the genetically modified crop. Assuming that some of the seeds from each crop are used to plant the next generation in each population, the allele frequencies of the two crops will become more similar over time.

The outcome of this scenario is gene flow between the two com populations (Option b). It may lead to the introduction of the genetically modified allele into the natural population.

Gene flow and cross-pollination

Gene flow refers to the interchange of genes (alleles) between different populations as a consequence of mating and/or migration.

Gene flow leads to the mixture of different alleles in the populations, which will be selected in each environment in order to shape allele and genotypic frequencies over time.

In this case, maize is an allogamous plant, which means that cross-pollination and gene flow will occur between different maize (corn) populations.

Compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration (include the balanced chemical reactions). Include two similarities
muminat

Answer:

Photosynthesis and cellular respiration both are a part of carbon cycle.

Explanation:

Photosynthesis & cellular respiration differences:

(1) Photosynthesis is an anabolic process whereas cellular respiration is a catabolic process.

(2) Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water as substrates to produce glucose as product and oxygen as byproduct.

The balanced chemical reaction for photosynthesis is mentioned as under:

                                                       Sunlight

        6CO₂             +     6H₂O    ---------------------> C₆H₁₂O₆     +     6O₂

(Carbon dioxide) (Water) (Glucose) (Oxygen)

In contrast to photosynthesis, cellular respiration uses glucose and oxygen as substrates and produces carbon dioxide and water as products.

Balanced chemical reaction for cellular respiration is mentioned as under:

  C₆H₁₂O₆ +       6O₂ ------------->       6CO₂            +       6H₂O   +  Energy (ATP)

(Glucose) (Oxygen) (Carbon dioxide) (Water)

Photosynthesis & cellular respiration similarities:

(1) Both of them are type of biochemical reactions which require enzymes.

(2) Both of them require exchange of gases.

"how is geneticly cloning animals affecting there reporducing system
xenn [34]
Well I think it about how current species have different reproductive system and by cloning animals mutations may show in the DNA process . Even though cloning is like making a copy of the same animal the DNA won't look the same or act the same behavior of the animal .

I Hope I explain this correctly. I may be wrong.

A(n) ________ is best defined as one who considers the impacts on the whole ecosystem, both the living and non-living, when cons
Nataliya [291]

The given question is incomplete. The complete question is:

Question: A(n) ________ is best defined as one who considers the impacts on the whole ecosystem, both the living and non-living, when considering an action.

(a) biocentrist

(b) ecocentrist

(c) anthropocentrist

(d) ethnocentrist

(e) relativist

Answer:

(b) ecocentrist

Explanation:

The approaches used for conservation of biodiversity differ from each other. The ecocentrist is the one who considers conservation and protection of the whole ecosystem including both the biotic and abiotic components. According to this concept, the biotic components and abiotic components of an ecosystem are interrelated. And the life forms can not sustain if their natural environment is degraded. Therefore, the conversation should be focused to preserve the ecosystem as a whole unit, not only the life forms.
