Nubia and Ancient Egypt had periods of peace and war. Based on rock art, it is believed that the Nubian rulers and early Egyptian pharaohs used similar royal symbols. There was often a peaceful cultural exchange and cooperation, and marriages between the two took place. The Egyptians, however, conquered Nubian territory at various times. The Nubians conquered and ruled Egypt in the 25th dynasty.
