ATP is formed from the breakdown of glucose molecule in mitochondria of the cell.

  • ATP molecule is formed in the process of respiration i.e. aerobic and anaerobic.
  • During aerobic cellular respiration, glucose reacts with oxygen in the mitochondria of the cell, forming ATP that can be used by the cell in different cellular activities.
  • When glucose reacts with oxygen, three molecules are formed i.e. ATP, Carbon dioxide and water.
  • ATP is used by the cell whereas the Water and carbon dioxide molecules are waste materials which are removed from the cell so we can say ATP is formed from the breakdown of glucose molecule in mitochondria of the cell.
