Which of the following does NOT limit cell size?

Answer:

A.

The correct answer would be A. ratio of surface area to volume .The cells are mostly spherical in shape. The surface area of the sphere = 4πr²The volume of the sphere = (4πr³)/3Thus, the increase in size would increase the volume (r³) more as compared to the increase in surface area (r²).The ratio of surface area to volume would decrease due to which the diffusion rate would not be efficient enough to distribute the essential elements throughout the volume of the cell.

Answer:

A

Explanation:

The answer options (factors) that are capable of limiting a cell size include the following:

A. ratio of surface area to volume.

B. rate of moving materials across the cell's membrane.

C. efficiency of using the information in a cell's DNA.

A cell can be defined as the fundamental (basic) functional, structural and smallest unit of life, which is mainly found in all living organisms.

Some of the factors that limit the size of a living cell include the following:

The ratio of surface area to volume: this is always required to be small, so as to allow sufficient materials such as food, move through the cell membrane quickly for the cell's survival.

The rate of moving materials across the cell's membrane: the survival of a cell is highly dependent on the rate at which necessary materials move across it's cell membrane.

The efficiency of using the information in a cell's DNA: a small sized cell has higher efficiency in the use of information that are stored in its deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Why do prokaryotes reproduce faster than eukaryotes?
JulijaS [17]
Prokaryotic cells reproduce asexually which makes it easier for them to multiply because all they have to do is split in half where as eukaryotic cells reproduce sexually so they have to find another cell to meet with in order to reproduce.

What role does transpiration play in the water cycle
Airida [17]

Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. Transpiration is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves. Transpiration also includes a process called guttation, which is the loss of water in liquid form from the uninjured leaf or stem of the plant, principally through water stomata.

Studies have revealed that about 10 percent of the moisture found in the atmosphere is released by plants through transpiration. The remaining 90 percent is mainly supplied by evaporation from oceans, seas, and other bodies of water (lakes, rivers, streams).

Transpiration and plant leaves

Plants put down roots into the soil to draw water and nutrients up into the stems and leaves. Some of this water is returned to the air by transpiration (when combined with evaporation, the total process is known as evapotranspiration). Transpiration rates vary widely depending on weather conditions, such as temperature, humidity, sunlight availability and intensity, precipitation, soil type and saturation, wind, land slope, and water use and diversion by people. During dry periods, transpiration can contribute to the loss of moisture in the upper soil zone, which can have an effect on vegetation and food-crop fields.

A "mystery molecule" was isolated in a laboratory and scientists found that the molecule readily crossed artificial membranes. W
Arlecino [84]

Answer: D. calcium chloride

Calcium chloride molecules can be ruled out as the mystery molecule

Explanation:

Artificial membranes are also called as the synthetic membranes. It is created synthetically for the special separation purpose in the laboratory.

It is used to separate large molecules like solid particles and big biological molecules like protein, DNA.

They are produced from organic materials. Calcium chloride contains the chloride ion and calcium ion, as the chloride ion easily passes the artificial membrane so we can term calcium chloride as the mystery membrane that passes the artificial membrane easily.
