Give three clues that indicate that the poet is taking a humorous tone in this poem.

We can see the humorous tone when the speaker claims that the cat is a master of crime, a cat that breaks human rules, and a monster of depravity.

This can be seen in the following lines:

  • For he's the criminal master who can defy the Law.
  • He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
  • For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity.

These lines show the humorous tone in the poem, as it exaggeratedly presents the cat as if this animal were a cruel and cunning creature, but we know that animals are not like that.

By portraying the animal in this way, the poet shows humor, as he places the animal above humans and with non-standard features.

It is important to remember that the tone of a poem is the feeling the poet wants to convey through the reading.

djverab [1.8K]

The piece of evidence that supports the idea that the narrator was possibly near or around a click-clack is D. "I heard things rattle gently, like dry bones in thin bags"(Paragraph 59).

A click-clack is a repeated clicking sound. It's a succession of clicks. It can also mean the sudden occurence of an audible event.

Therefore, the piece of evidence that supports the idea that the narrator was possibly around a click-clack is due to the fact that he heard things that rattle gently, like dry bones in thin bags"
