Answer:

List the 3 principles of cell theory.

1: All things are made of cells. 2: Cells are the basic unit of life. 3: All cells come from other cells.

Explain the difference between multicellular and unicellular organisms.

Unicellular only have 1 cell, multicellular have many that organize into organ systems.

Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

Describe the functions of the following organelles: Nucleus, mitochondria, vesicles, lysosome, chloroplasts, vacuoles, ribosomes, cilia, flagella, cell membrane (phospholipid bilayer), cell wall, cytoplasm, golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum (rough and smooth), centrioles (centrosomes).

Nucleus-protects DNA

Mitochondria-where food is broken downduring cellular respiration so ATP can be released to be used by the cell

Vesicles-transports proteins around the cell

Lysosome-destroys armful substances or worn out cell parts

Chloroplasts-were photosynthesis occurs

Vacuoles-large storage container for water, food, and waste (only in plant cells)

Ribosomes-made of proteins, provides structural support for animal cells

Cilia-sweep away particles

Flagella-acts like a whip to move the cell

Cell Membrane-made of 2 layers of phospholipids, controls what moves in and out of the cell

Cell Wall-made of cellulose in plants, chitin in fungi, and peptidoglycan in bacteria

Cytoplasm-liquid that organelles rest in

Golgi Apparatus-processed and sorts proteins to be shipped

Rough E.R.-covered in ribosomes and surrounds nucleus

Smooth E.R.-makes lipids

Centrioles-made of microtubules, helps the cell divide by pulling chromosomes apart

Compare and contrast plants and animal cells

Animal cells-lysosomes, cilia, flagella, mitochondria

Plant cells-centrioles, cell wall, central vacuole, chloroplasts

Identify an organelle based on a description.

made of proteins. Provides structural support for animal cells.-ribosomes

Identify a cell as eukaryotic, prokaryotic, animal, or plant based on a description or diagram.

Predict the consequences of the failure or absence of an organelle inside a eukaryotic cell.

The cell wouldn't survive without the organelles such as mitochondria.

Vocabulary

A. Eukaryote-an organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus.

B. Prokaryote-a microscopic single-celled organism that has neither a distinct nucleus with a membrane nor other specialized organelles.

C. Organelles-any of a number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell.

kenny6666 [7]
In bone growth, the medullary cavity is enlarged because of the activity of osteoclasts. These are cells working to break down bone, resorbing old bones which will line in the medullary cavity. The cavity is also enlarge as the cells contribute to the increase in length and diameter of a growing bone.
