Morgan made a mistake when subtracting the rational expressions below 3t^2-4t+1/t+3-t^2+2t+2/t+3=2t^2-2t+3/t+3. What was Morgan'

s error?
A. Morgan forgot to combine only like terms
B. Morgan forgot to subtract the denominators as well as numerators.
C. Morgan forgot to cancel out the +3 in the numerator and denominator as her final step.

<h3>Answer: Choice D. </h3>

Morgan forgot to distribute the negative sign to two of the terms in the second expression.

=============================================================

Explanation:

Focus on the numerators.

We have (3t^2-4t+1) as the first numerator and we subtract off (t^2+2t+2) as the second numerator.

Morgan needs to simplify (3t^2-4t+1)-(t^2+2t+2) for the numerator.

Mistakenly, she had these steps

(3t^2-4t+1)-(t^2+2t+2)

3t^2-4t+1-t^2+2t+2 .... her mistake made here

(3t^2-t^2)+(-4t+2t)+(1+2)

2t^2-2t+3

All of this applies to the numerator. The denominator stays at t+3 the entire time. So effectively we can ignore it on a temporary basis.

Here's what Morgan should have for her steps when simplifying the numerator.

(3t^2-4t+1)-(t^2+2t+2)

3t^2-4t+1-t^2-2t-2 ..... distribute the negative

(3t^2-t^2)+(-4t-2t)+(1-2)

2t^2-6t-1

Note in the second step, the negative outside flips the sign of each term in the second parenthesis.

Therefore,

\frac{3t^2-4t+1}{t+3}-\frac{t^2+2t+2}{t+3}\\\\\frac{(3t^2-4t+1)-(t^2+2t+2)}{t+3}\\\\\frac{3t^2-4t+1-t^2-2t-2}{t+3}\\\\\frac{2t^2-6t-1}{t+3}\\\\

which means \frac{3t^2-4t+1}{t+3}-\frac{t^2+2t+2}{t+3}=\frac{2t^2-6t-1}{t+3}, \ \ \text{ where } t \ne -3\\\\

Side notes:

  • The fractions can only be subtracted since the denominators are the same.
  • We have t \ne -3 to avoid a division by zero error.
  • Rational expressions are a fraction, or ratio, of two polynomials.

A line includes the points (9,0) and (-9,2). What is its equation in slope-intercept form?
horsena [70]
Y=mx+b

First use the two point slope formula to find m

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(2-0)/(-9-9)
2/-18
1/-9=m

Next use the point slope formula to find the answer

y-y1=m(x-x1)

y-0=1/-9(x-9)

Now use Distributive Property
y-0=1/-9(x)+1/-9(-9)
y-0=1/-9x+1

Your answer would be
y=-1/9x+1

What is (-94)÷5+22÷22's square?
Paha777 [63]

Answer:

Error

Step-by-step explanation:

(-94)/5+22/22    Given

-18.8+1                PEMDAS (do -94/5 and 22/2)

-17.8                    Add the numbers

After you add the numbers, you take the square root. you will get the answer "Error" because you cannot take the square root of a negative number

There are 30 contestants playing a game. Off the 30, 16 are men and 20 are wearing glasses. If all of the women are wearing glas
Whitepunk [10]

Answer:

1/5

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 30 contestants.  16 are men, which means 14 are women.

All 14 women wear glasses.  Since 20 of the contestants wear glasses, that means there are 6 men who wear glasses.

So the probability that a randomly selected contestant will be a male with glasses is 6/30 or 1/5.
