X2-16/x+4 , expand X2-16 to (x+4)(x-4)
=(x-4)(x+4) / x+4 , x+4 cancel each other out
=x-4

We've been given to find out the value for the given algebraic expression which is,

:\implies\tt{ \frac{ {x}^{2} - 16 }{x + 4} }

The most easiest way to solve this kind of problem is to find factors for (x² - 16) and cancelling them with the factor of (x + 4) in denominator. The factors for (x² - 16) are (x + 4) and (x - 4). For cross check,

:\implies\tt{(x + 4)(x - 4)}

:\implies\tt{ {x}^{2}  - 16}

These are correct factors which obeys our expression now as per our question,

:\implies\tt{  \frac{ {x}^{2}  - 16}{x + 4} }

:\implies\tt{ \frac{(x + 4)(x - 4)}{x + 4} }

Cancelling (x + 4) from both numerator and denominator we get answer as,

:\implies\tt{x - 4}

  • The answer for the expression is (x - 4)
