Question: Who was Fredrick Douglass and why is his narrative and life important even today?

Answer:

 • Frederick Douglass was an escaped slave who became a prominent activist, author and public speaker. He became a leader in the abolitionist movement, which sought to end the practice of slavery, before and during the Civil War
 • His speeches and publications are part of America's cultural history and of African American contemporary literature and politics. Douglass' three autobiographies are one of the strongest influences in the slave narrative literary genre. His influence can be felt today as references in hip hop songs.
 • Frederick Douglass sits in the pantheon of Black history figures: Born into slavery, he made a daring escape north, wrote best-selling autobiographies and went on to become one of the nation's most powerful voices against human bondage.

In "Luck Favors the Prepared," how is Charles Goodyear's invention of vulcanized rubber an example of both preparation and luck?
lukranit [14]

Answer:

because he did not stumble upon the invention just out of sheer luck.

Explanation:

In the lesson "Luck Favors the Prepared", Charles Goodyear's invention of vulcanized rubber is an example of both preparation and luck because he did not stumble upon the invention just out of sheer luck.

Goodyear had been experimenting endlessly with natural rubber in hopes to find a way to make the rubber more durable, elastic, or stretchy. He attempted many times and failed miserably before he accidently invented the vulcanized rubber. Had he not been preparing for it continuously, he wouldn't have stumbled on his luck.

Which of the following in-text citations is written correctly for a periodical citation? The author of the source is Audre Syng,
Triss [41]

Answer:

A). Syng, page. 18

Explanation:

An in-text citation usually follows the pattern beginning the author's last name followed by initials(first and second), year, month, day, article name, Newspaper title and the page range for general reference. But in case of paraphrase, the in-text citation is written as the author's last name followed by the year which is not among the options. Thus, the most appropriate among the given ones could be (Syng, p.18) as the other options are not following the format at all and hence, either incomplete or inappropriate.
